Technical visits

Hosted by Framatome and EDF. The day started at the Framatome workshops in Saint-Marcel, dedicated to the manufacturing of heavy components for nuclear power plants, with a guided tour of the production floor. In the afternoon, participants moved on foot to CETIC, the EDF/Framatome centre where intervention techniques on nuclear boilers are developed and tested, for a presentation and a visit of its workshops. Hosted by EDF at two sites of the Ain department. The day began at Creys-Malville, home of the Superphénix fast reactor, with a talk on the site's history, technology and ongoing decommissioning activities, followed by visits to the reactor building and the control room. In the afternoon, participants toured the Bugey nuclear power plant, discovering the turbine hall, which houses the turbo-generator sets, and learning how the cooling towers operate. [Programme] 

Hosted by CEA and the ITER Organization. The day started at the CEA Cadarache research centre with a presentation of IRESNE, the institute for low-carbon nuclear energy systems, and of the Jules Horowitz Reactor (RJH), followed by a tour of TOTEM, a nuclear facility dedicated to developing and maintaining experimental devices. In the afternoon, participants moved to ITER, the international fusion project, for an introduction to the project and a guided tour of the construction site. [Programme]
